Toby is an old English word for the clown that worked the road leading to the circus. This means Toby KID was born to clown and clown he did. Starting with jokes for his cousins to leading roles in Cub Scout skits, all the world was a stage to the young entrepreneur. Several years later he became several years older. Utilizing basics from high school drama and with the grace of a football lineman. Toby threw in some juggling and magic too, and entertained his keep through college, receiving a degree in elementary education.
Toby was off, to Europe, that is. The European street performers and clowns greatly influenced Toby's style of mirth making. As a European Auguste Clown, he has broken down many American clowning concepts in his 20 year career.
Toby then took himself and other estranged objects back to the good ol' USA. Toby's unique style of humor (developed in comedy clubs nationwide), visual stunts and diversified skills make him on of the hottest clowns in the country. He has been on the Bozo Show and his clown face was seen on Late Night with David Letterman.
The International Clown Hall of Fame (ICHOF) recognizes Toby's talents and has given him the high honors of emceeing induction ceremonies, an unprecedented six times. Toby KID has done numerous performances for the ICHOF. One of which was for a special Russian delegation which included Cosmonauts and Eugene Krusheve. "We wanted a really good performance because the Russians have such spectacular circus artists. They are used to nothing but the best. That is why I asked Toby to perform." says Kathryn O'Dell, director of the ICHOF.
Toby KID likes to make 'em laugh and laugh they do. His award winning educational shows are presented at 290 schools each year. Toby's skills stroll some 75 festivals per season and his comedy show plays to 150 different audiences annually. Not to mention his writing for other performers, volunteer shows and service on several community boards. Well, I guess we did just mention it.
Toby has been married to Jennifer S. Klauenberg since June 3, 1989 and they live in Ogden, Iowa. They have four children, Toby Jo, Byron, Charlie Sue and Allea Jaye Louise.
